Meeting opened at
10.20a.m.
Apologies were
received from Matthew Forno (Coominya), Joan Watson (Ipswich), Rowena Vnuk,
Martin Waterworth, Mary Bone (Newmarket), Trish Cearns (Southport), Jane Brown
(Toowoomba) and Gail Zropf (Crow's Nest).
Reports were read by
office bearers who moved that each report be received, and after seconding, the
meeting accepted each report as follows:
President, Anne Drew,
seconded by Michael Vnuk.
Treasurer, Jackie
Nazarenko, seconded by Anne Drew.
Secretary, Olga
Visser, seconded by Trish Brighton.
Membership Officer,
Patricia Shelvey, seconded by Karrin Henderson.
Records Officer,
Michael Vnuk, seconded by Karrin Henderson.
Scrapbook Compiler,
Rowena Vnuk (presented by Michael), seconded by Olga Visser.
Business of the
meeting:
CASPA has suggested
that states change their official name to Scrabble {Name of State}. For ASPA (Qld) to change our name to
Scrabble Queensland, we will need to poll all members as it will mean a change
of constitution, letterhead and bank account. {All clubs need to discuss this, and we need to poll every
member for agreement. In the next
two weeks, club organisers need to collect members' opinions about the name
change - a YES or a NO - and present the result at the meeting at Redland Bay}.
The new Collins Word List will be ordered from Tilefish in the UK. The 44-page booklets and the double-sided laminated sheets will be ordered for despatch by airmail, but the books will probably arrive later by land-air freight. Only financial members will be allowed to purchase one copy of these publications at cost, with ASPAQ carrying the cost of freight. (Subsequent to these minutes having been compiled, CASPA has arranged a suitable deal with Harper Collins here in Australia, and Queensland will be ordering 150 copies through CASPA. We may still get the 44-page booklet and the sheets from the UK.)
A suggestion by Robyn
Corbel that Masters play 7 games out of sync with the rest of the players when
a 6-game tournament is held. It
was felt that the logistics of this and the resultant extra work for computer
operators, ratings officer, and national ratings co-ordinator may make this
impossible. With approval from
those whose work load will be heavier, any club is welcome to give it a try.
A suggestion that the
Scrapbook be part of the kit for clubs to read it away from a tournament was
not considered feasible. Rowena
said that she would collect all "new" articles in one scrapbook so that
readers could easily find the latest materials.
Patricia Shelvey said
she wanted to quit having the responsibility of the Scrabble Enquiry
Centre. A new volunteer is needed
for this before May, when the entry goes into the White Pages. This is not an onerous duty - Patricia
said that she receives about one enquiry a month.
President, Olga
Visser, nominated by Karrin Henderson, seconded Sandra Woolard.
Secretary, Anne Drew,
self nominated, seconded Bernice Jonathan.
Treasurer, Jackie
Nazarenko, self nominated, seconded Maureen Gardner.
Membership Officer,
Jane Brown, self nominated, seconded Trish Brighton.
Website Manager, David
Breadsell, self nominated, seconded Bernice Jonathan.
Other positions
remained with the incumbents - Ratings Officer, Martin Waterworth; Records
Officer, Michael Vnuk; Scrapbook Compiler, Rowena Vnuk; Rules Representative,
Olga Visser.
It was noted that when
the Vnuks transfer to Adelaide, other members will need to be appointed to
carry out their duties.
The meeting closed at
11.45a.m.
The next meeting will
be held at Redland Bay on 10th March.
